Server logs
Visiting the site
When you open a page, your browser sends technically necessary data to our server: IP address, timestamp, requested address, status code, amount of data transferred, referrer and user agent. This is required to deliver the page and to keep the service secure.
These details are written to server logs, including your IP address. We use them only for debugging and to defend against attacks. They are not combined with other data and are not used to build profiles.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating the site securely and reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Logs are deleted automatically after seven days. We keep them longer only where a specific security incident needs investigating, in which case the entries concerned are retained until that investigation is closed.
The server delivering this site is located in the European Union.
Analytics
Cookieless audience measurement
We use Umami, a self-hosted analytics tool. It runs on our own infrastructure in the EU, and no data is passed to third parties.
Umami sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses. It records aggregate values: the page viewed, the referrer, approximate country-level origin, device type and browser. Individual visitors cannot be recognised across visits, and no profiles are created.
For a share of visits Umami also records how a page is used: clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, shown as a heatmap or as a replay of a single visit. All text on the page is masked in these recordings, so they show where something happened, not what was read. The site has no forms and no login, so no input is captured. The recordings stay on our server, are not linked to a person, and serve only to make the pages easier to use.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Because nothing is stored on or read from your device, no consent is required and this site shows no cookie banner. You may object to this processing at any time, most simply by email to the address above.
Contact
Getting in touch
This site has no contact form. If you email us, we process your message and address details solely to answer your enquiry (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR).
We keep the correspondence for as long as it is needed to handle your request or as required by statutory retention periods, and we do not pass it to third parties.
If you book a call through the scheduling link, the booking is handled by Calendly (Calendly LLC, USA) under their privacy terms. Using it is voluntary and happens only once you click the link.
Newsletter
Newsletter and feedback
If you receive our newsletter, we process your email address and name in order to send it. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every message.
The feedback links in our newsletters (thumbs up, thumbs down, unsubscribe) record your response together with your email address, so that we can improve which items we select.
Third parties
Embedded content
This site embeds no videos, maps, fonts or social media widgets from external servers. Fonts are served from our own server, so opening a page makes no connection to Google Fonts or similar services.
External links (for example to LinkedIn or Calendly) are only followed when you click them. From that point the respective provider’s privacy terms apply.
Your rights
What rights you have
Under the GDPR you have the right at any time to:
- access the data held about you (Art. 15)
- have inaccurate data corrected (Art. 16)
- erasure (Art. 17) and restriction of processing (Art. 18)
- data portability (Art. 20)
- object to processing (Art. 21)
An informal email to gernot@dataprospectors.at is enough.
If you believe your data is being processed unlawfully, you can lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority: dsb.gv.at.
